Position Care Assistant

Description An unqualified member of the nursing team, you will be assisting the trained nursing staff and working to the instruction of the Enrolled Nurse or RN.Main Responsibilities

  • Strip and make unoccupied beds and put away laundry as required
  • Give and remove bedpans, urinals, sanichairs and commodes. Observe contents, measure and record, and report any abnormalities to the senior nurse prior to disposal
  • Give and change sputum cartons. Observe and report any abnormality to the senior nurse
  • Assist with the admission and discharge of patients
  • Help the patients wash and care for themselves in all aspects of personal hygiene. Clean dentures and provide and label denture containers if required
  • Assist a trained nurse to care for the seriously ill and helpless patients
  • Prepare the room and patients for meals. Feed or help patients as appropriate and make comfortable after meal. Bring to the attention of the senior nurse any patient who is having difficulty in taking food or drink. After evening meal use small sweeper in lounges if necessary
  • Assist in bathing patients in bed or in the bathroom, including care of hair, hands and feet
  • Assist patients getting in and out of bed with dressing and undressing, and with mobilisation as appropriate
  • Chaperone and escort patients as directed
  • In accordance with the Nursing Home Policy, assist another member of the nursing staff in checking and listing patients’ property and valuables, and arranging for its safe storage
  • Take all reasonable precautions to ensure that patients’ property is safeguarded
  • Assist a trained nurse with “last offices” when necessary
  • Attend all fire and lifting lectures as directed
  • Refer ALL requests for information to the nurse in charge
  • Report any incidents or accidents to the RGN so they can complete the relevant forms as required
  • Care Assistants should be aware of and work in accordance with correct nursing and Nursing Home Policies
  • To agree, carry out and evaluate training programmes appropriate to care staff

Position Registered General Nurse
Full/part time Permanent and Bank hours – part time, as required

Description As a registered Nurse you will have a good working knowledge of the CQC standards and be person centred in your approach to care. You will be engaging with residents throughout your shift, so it is important you have the skills to understand the needs of older people.

Main Responsibilities

  • Perform clinical nursing procedures and supervise and participate in the general nursing care programme
  • Ensure nursing orders are properly understood and carried out and explain changes to other staff
  • Prepare patients and equipment for medical treatements and assist doctors as required
  • Receive new residents and care for them as instructed
  • Assist in the preparation of residents for transfer or discharge
  • Deploy staff to ensure maximum observation of residents
  • Observe and report the condition of residents and complete daily records
  • Administer drugs and conduct/attend medicine rounds, ensuring correct drug administration procedures are observed in detail
  • Assist nursing staff to check and list residents’ property and valuables and arrange safe storage in accordance with company policy
  • Receive instruction from the Matron Manager on general administration and undertake some administrative tasks when competent
  • Coordinate and control nursing staff and their duties, referring to the Matron Manager when necessary. Prepare reports for and take reports from the alternating staff
  • Attend to relatives and visitors and make arrangements for them to see the Matron Manager or doctor when requested
  • Introduce new staff to their colleagues and duties
  • Maintain an awareness of fire and security hazards and attend regular training
  • Practise and encourage the correct and economical use of equipment and supplies
  • Agree, carry out and evaluate training programmes appropriate to nursing staff
  • Assist in the planning, implementation and evaluation of training for Care Assistants
  • Complete appraisals for Care Assistants as directed by the Matron Manager

Education and experience

  • A relevant Nursing qualification
  • Valid NMC PIN
  • Genuine interest in caring for older people
  • Good standard of education in literacy and numeracy
  • Knowledge of Microsoft computer systems is desirable
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Strong customer focus
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment at all levels

Position Domestic Assistant
Full/part time Bank hours – part time, as required
Salary / pay rate TBC
Description To ensure the home is kept clean and hygienic at all times, maintaining high standards of appearance to contribute to the quality of care and lifestyle afforded to each resident. This is particularly applicable to each resident’s privacy and dignity and in respect of each resident’s personal possessions.

Main Responsibilities

  • To be directly responsible to the Domestic Supervisor
  • Clean all allocated rooms including furniture, fittings, fabric, carpets and equipment
  • Be aware of the health and safety policy of the nursing home and observe COSHH regulations
  • Clean sanitary and other equipment, with particular attention to guidelines for the control of germs and infestation
  • Report any malfunction of equipment or fittings that require maintenance or cannot be kept to standard through normal cleaning procedures
  • Dispose of waste bags in the appropriate collection skip
  • Carry out laundry procedures and be responsible for daily cleaning of the laundry equipment, daily de-fluffing of the dryers and reporting any defects to the Administrator
  • Ensure the correct use of bags with regard to soiled and infectious linen
  • Distribute clothes to the appropriate residents’ rooms
  • Ensure the correct marking of the residents’ clothes
  • Keep laundry and store area in a clean and hygienic condition
  • Perform other such reasonable duties as may be required
  • To agree, carry out and evaluate training programmes appropriate to domestic staff
